Re: Tank movies
Where do you live, Magnus?
Re: Tank movies
Great bunch of vids guys.
Bovington is a great museum and well worth visiting. If they had a working KingTiger it would probably rank it as one of the best tank museums in Europe, if not the best.
It looks like they have built a new spectators arena recently also. I really wish I had thought about the events they have going on this summer. It would have been nice to see the Tiger in motion.
Last time I was there it was in a fully restored state minus the engine. I have a couple of pictures of it which I will hunt down and post up sometime this week.
Cheers

Die Niederlande, I thought you already know?
@ Moose,
They build an entire new wing at museum and also the spectators arena you mentioned.
You are lucky you live in the Uk with those awesome tank and Airshows.

Re: Tank movies
Ok guys...... here`s the Tigger.... plus a few more you may like .
The Tiger pics are a bit grainey sadly, I took them a long time ago on a fairly cheap digi camera. I shall be visiting again one day soon so I will get some better pictures next time around.
Here`s the Tigers only counterpart in those early days.
PzIII
PzV
Pz VI TigerII
SdKfz 173 ( my personal favourite AFV of all time)
This guy was a Sherman commander in the desert war. ( I forget his name now sadly)
This is an 88mm AT shell.
I`ve got some other pics that I`m sure you guys will enjoy. I will sort through them and post up over the summer sometime, I can`t do it now because I`ve had all I can take of Photobucket for a few days
Cheers all

Re: Tank movies
Nice pictures Moose,
You know if they gonna restore the engine's of the Panther, Jagdpanther?

Re: Tank movies
I don`t know what their plans are Magnus.
I do know that the Panther and Jagd have been static displays for many years, whereas the Tiger was put on and off display during the different stages of rebuild.
I shall try and find out some info on what they have planned for the future and let you know.
I would really like to see the KT back in action, but I think they might be missing a couple of peices here and there.
Cheers

Re: Tank movies
I have been searching too and you will not see the KT in action sadly:
I stumbled on www.wheatcroftcollection.com (private collector) which has plans to rebuild a KT from parts they required. That will be a very long process I guess.
The Panther though has all the parts but only needs funding to restore it.The engine, turret traverse system and gearbox were sold for scrap in the 90's while the tank was in the care of Shrivenham Military Academy.

Re: Tank movies
That`s really sad about the KT engine. why would anyone do that for gods sake. A very bad decision on their part.
Millitarymodelling forum visited Wheatcrofts workshops and have several photos to check out. The guy has so much stuff it`s unreal.

Another private collector is Jacques Littlefield ( died in Jan 09 ) from the USA.
